BIOGRAPHY
Morna says “Painting and drawing have always been an integral part of who I am. My art is how I express and defined myself. Creating a pathway to others, crossing the past with the present and extending into the future.” Morna began painting in oils at the age of nine and exhibited in her first one person show at twelve. She has received many awards and her paintings are in collections world-wide, private, public and corporate. Her Art education began in 1954 at the Midland Art Institute under the direction of Arnold Leandar, summers were spent in painting workshops and private lessons. During High School Morna attended Sul Ross State College Summer Classes. 1964 at Texas Technological College she was a student in Architecture transferring the next year to the Fine Arts program major in Drawing and Painting at North Texas State College. With senior standing Morna began studies in the Upper Division Program at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. Morna first sold portraits to friends and family in order to purchase art supplies while in school. She entered juried Art Exhibitions and Competitions, placing and winning awards. After Art Center she taught in Art in Private Schools and was art director for Russian River Stump Newspaper and Another Production Advertising. Moving to Michigan from California she taught Art for Grand Rapids Public Schools, Physically or Otherwise Impaired program, Adult and college prep students. As a self-employed artist Morna began living on a sailboat along the Atlantic seaboard. Anchoring in Islamorada, Florida Keys she joined as a partner as owner of Artamorada Gallery LLC at the Rainbarrel, mm 86.7 . November of 2018 she moved to Tavares and in January 2019 became a Member of the Artisans on Fifth, Art Center of Mount Dora and Modernism Museum. Recent awards are Best of Show 2018 at Kentucky Watercolor Society in Louisville. Best traditional Holiday Ornament, Islamorada Holiday Fest 2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2010 .
