Meet Emily Lewis
BIOGRAPHY
Emily Lewis moved to Central Florida in 1998 as a snowbird, sharing time with her native Cincinnati, Ohio. Finding every opportunity to partake of Mount Dora’s art events and other entertainment, she and her husband discovered Mount Dora in 2000 and moved permanently to Florida in 2008. She has always enjoyed art and working with her hands. She graduated from Albion College in Michigan where she majored in Fine Art and German Language. After graduation she attended the Art Academy in Cincinnati in Graphic Design. She worked as a graphic designer for Huffy Bicycles Corporation and Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Emily has always done some form of artwork. For a long time, she worked as a quilter, even exhibited at Quilt National Invitational in 2005 and 2007, sold contemporary art quilts at Mount Dora Art Festival and others, both in Florida and Ohio. Painting her own fabrics led her to a desire to paint on canvas. In Ohio, she began to study with master artists Kay Hurley and Paul Wolven. In 2004 she began painting classes with Mount Dora’s master artist, Jane Slivka. Since 2018 she has been studying portraiture on line with Matt Philleo. In 2007 she began painting full-time, also exhibiting and selling her work at Art Festivals in Florida and Ohio. She maintained an art studio outside her home from 2008-2022. She is joining Artisans on 4th as she believes it gives her art an opportunity to be displayed in a venue that is open full time. Having painted with a somewhat impressionistic style in opaque acrylic for years she prefers a transparent style using acrylic medium, this gives a vibrancy and glow to her landscapes and portraits. |
