BIOGRAPHY
After a career as an art director/graphic designer in Long Island, NY for thirty plus years, I relocated to Mt. Dora, FL in January 2019. My artistic interest has led to attending workshops and classes in precious metal clay, enameling, glass fusion, watercolor and more. I am always looking for creative possibilities in different media and like to explore the possibilities using recycled material. A background in graphic design has given me a good understanding of composition and my canvases tend to feature rich, vibrant color. I like to recycle old books, magazines, maps and other printed material into hand-printed papers which become the foundation for my artwork and printing my own papers allows me to create my own color palette. Paper Painting Technique My artwork is a collage technique involving hand-printed papers using magazines, maps, book and deli wrap. I roll the papers on a Gelli press with acrylic paint and use stencils, stamps, stippling, dribbling. etc. to create interesting textures and designs. Combining different techniques and over- lapping layers creates great visual interest on the hand-painted papers. The next step is to loosely sketch my subject on the canvas establishing color, values and shading. After the painting is dry. I use a gel medium to glue down torn pieces of the printed papers on the surface of the canvas. Once I’m finished gluing my papers, I allow the piece to dry completely before applying a few coats of varnish over the surface. Below are a few samples of my work, custom sizes per request. Artistic note cards are available too, individual or packages. |
