I grew up in Texas. From my family I developed an appreciation for art and the beauty of nature. However, I always felt like I didn’t have the skill to produce works of art. As I turned 60 and started to think about retiring, I realized I was no longer afraid of making a fool of myself in public. I started taking lessons and even showing my work. I was lucky to happen upon excellent teachers who taught me well and also encouraged me. My first love was drawing which is the foundation of most of my work. Nature has been my inspiration even for the abstract works. Watercolor became my favorite medium because of its versatility. I get a thrill from creating a painting that looks like its subject but I also love expanding on a subject. This led me into abstract work. Sometimes if you look very closely at one of my paintings, you can see what it’s based on. I have recently become interested in creating with pastel. In many ways, pastel is the opposite of watercolor, things I couldn’t do In watercolor I can do in pastel! I hope this will lead to a new world. |
