BIOGRAPHY
My exploration into art started with a challenge to myself (could I create a piece of quality?) and passion (I LOVE Southern culture, wildlife, springs, rivers, reefs and beaches). The REAL FLORIDA as I’ve known it my whole life. Not so much marshes, (they are beautiful, but the bugs drive me nuts) but wildlife and beaches and springs. Florida is and always will be my home. I’ve explored several mediums including acrylics, wood, and pottery. It is clay that keeps calling me back: Raku is exciting and risky (opening a kiln running at 1800 degrees is risky), porcelain is silky and temperamental, stoneware has deep cultural roots. Different clays and glazes give the potter never ending possibilities for creative work. My first painting was of two sailboats. Daddy was a sailor who built his own boat and raced competitively. My sisters and brother and I sailed every chance we could get on the waterways and beaches off St. Petersburg. We were young and carefree days and somewhat innocent. I still love the water, so the combination of wind and water are present in many of my works. My hope is that my art brings you joy or some emotion that is good. If it finds a home with you that makes me happy. I have trained with Gary Lee, Lee Partin, and Kyu Yamamoto, and I am a frequent participant in Wildacres Artists Gatherings. |
