Artist Statement
Catherine Rhea (Ray) McLean was born and raised in Middle Tennessee, where her lifelong passion for art first took root. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Tennessee and later received a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Although her career led her into real estate for two decades, her desire to create never faded. After relocating to Mount Dora, Florida, she rediscovered her artistic voice through silversmithing, combining a painter's eye for composition, color, and texture with the timeless craft of metalsmithing. Rhea creates one-of-a-kind fabricated sterling silver jewelry. Drawn to bold, substantial forms, she favors chunky silver, rich textures, and luminous gemstones such as moonstone, labradorite, opal, and other stones that reveal shifting color and light. Every piece is thoughtfully handcrafted to honor the natural character of the metal and stone, resulting in jewelry that feels both organic and enduring. Fabricated sterling silver jewelry — bold, raw, and luminous. |
