Meet Bill Krug
Artist Statement
Bill lives in Clermont, Florida with his wife Anita. We moved here from Indiana where he finished his 21-year military career and then had a career as an associate professor teaching leadership at Purdue University. Bill has been creating with wood for 30 years. He enjoys using “found” wood and is always on the lookout for that piece that has “possibilities”, the recent hurricane has provided a lot to select from. His current focus is turning bowls, vases, pens, and other unique pieces. He creates turnings that feature the beauty within the wood. While turning, the unique grain and color of the wood is revealed, and the art takes on form. Some pieces are refined and symmetrical, and others use the splendor of natural bark to enhance the piece. His turnings are designed to highlight the natural beauty of the wood grain, incorporating new materials to add to their uniqueness. Bill likes to work with walnut, oak, camphor, and Norfolk pine, but also enjoys working with any unique piece like root balls and especially burls. He enjoys doing commission work for people that have a special piece of wood, like wood from a tree that the kids use to climb. |
